HISTORY

Mate in tea bags is a different and practical way to enjoy yerba mate, which was originally prepared with loose yerba mate.

In 1965, Establecimiento Las Marías facilitated its preparation and consumption by developing yerba mate tea bags. Its preparation is exactly the same as that of yerba mate; the only difference is the grinding: only the yerba mate leaves are processed and sorted, eliminating the stems and dust. This special selection results in a crystal-clear, excellent-quality mate tea bag.

PREPARATION

The Importance of Water

As with all infusions, the flavor, aroma, and color of a good mate tea bag will be affected by the water used. The water used to prepare it must be pure and fresh, from the tap. Since this varies greatly depending on the region, if the water is highly chlorinated, filtered water should be used, but never mineral water, as it contains sodium, potassium, and other mineral salts that cause hardness and affect the quality of the infusion. It must be freshly boiled, because overboiling eliminates dissolved oxygen, affecting the quality of the infusion and all the natural benefits of mate tea bags.

To prepare the mate tea bag

Heat fresh water to a boil, pour it directly onto the tea bag, and then let it steep for five minutes. Then add milk and sugar to taste.

Iced mate tea bag

It's an exquisite and super refreshing drink, especially in its Mandarin & Orange and Strawberry & Vanilla flavored versions. To enjoy it, simply prepare the mate tea bag the traditional way, although it's recommended to let it steep longer for a stronger infusion. This way, adding plenty of ice will preserve its delicious flavor. Add sugar to taste.
