Every year, Banco Galicia and the newspaper LA NACIÓN present the "Agricultural Excellence Award" to the industry's top names in 15 categories. The company behind Taragüi, Establecimiento Las Marías, won not only the Best Agrifood Industry award in 2017, but also the highest honor of the evening, the gold distinction.
Recognition for their contribution to society
With this recognition, Las Marías is not only recognized for its undeniable track record as the world's largest yerba mate company (also diversified into many other activities), but also for its significant social contribution: The company currently employs 1,200 people and 850 contractors, while 90 families live on the premises. It also founded the Victoria School, which 400 students attend, and the Víctor Navajas Centeno Agricultural Institute, which already has 1,000 graduates.
The Las Marías establishment is located in the province of Corrientes, where 55,962 tons of yerba mate, 2,200 tons of tea, and 66,773 tons of roundwood were produced in 2016 alone. With over 85 years in the market, some of its best-known brands include Taragüi, Unión, and La Merced.
Standout performance among many
Las Marías stands out among 260 submissions from producers, companies, and research organizations. In fact, there were 25% more nominations in 2017 than in previous editions. This award recognizes individuals and companies that seek to innovate, use technology, and improve production, while simultaneously protecting the environment and generating a positive impact on society.
The award is an icon of excellence in the agricultural sector and means a lot to both those who receive it and those who present it. "When we conceived this award, we were clear that we wanted to promote an exceptional and extraordinary event that would connect the infinite universe of agriculture, education, and innovation," said Norberto Frigerio, Director of Institutional Relations at LA NACION.
