Las Marías: sustainability and avant-garde behind a quality mate

Las Marías is a benchmark in sustainability and quality in yerba mate production. With responsible agricultural practices and comprehensive control from seed to packaging, it guarantees high-quality, chemical-free yerba mate. Its focus on environmental preservation and job creation has made this establishment a leader in the sector, visited by thousands of tourists annually.

Almost a century ago, Don Víctor Navajas Centeno had the vision of using the lands of the Las Marías ranch in the Argentine province of Corrientes to plant his first yerba mate plantation, likely inspired by the proximity of the Paraná rainforest, where the Guaraní people began to process and consume the herb.

There, Don Víctor successfully combined the old ranch with the town and its people to give life to this rural enterprise, which, over the course of nearly a century of hard work, grew into the green paradise that is today the Las Marías Estate.

The creative hand behind Taragüi

After establishing his agricultural business in Las Marías and eventually owning the southernmost yerba mate plantations on the planet, Don Víctor set a new dream: to take on the entire yerba mate manufacturing process, from seed to packaging, to control and guarantee its quality from the source.

Thus, in 1940, Yerba Mate Taragüi packaged was launched, quickly positioning itself at the forefront of its category. From then on, Establecimiento Las Marías has stood out as the world's leading yerba mate producer, as well as a significant source of employment and social services locally.

Seal of quality and avant-garde

Today, Las Marías represents a seal of guarantee and sustainability with a variety of traditional and innovative products for the region's large community of mate drinkers: from traditional presentations to yerba mate in tea bags; smooth-ground, low-dust, fruit-flavored yerba mate; and even a ready-to-drink mate kit.

An adventure in mate paradise

More than 40,000 tourists visit the Las Marías Establishment each year, which has become a lush nature reserve that blends industry and nature amid thousands of hectares of reddish earth, verdant yerba mate and tea plantations, and large pine and eucalyptus forests. This is a very interesting walk where you can admire an agroecosystem where native animals roam freely.

Las Marías offers a pedestrian walkway where you can explore the grounds and gardens, as well as see La Mayoría, the former family home that is the emblem of the Establishment. For the more avid, guided tours must be reserved to learn about different productive sectors, and there is also the opportunity to enjoy the Club Taragüi grill, which serves traditional dishes.
